How cities can cooperate to create more sustainable industries

Compact and vibrant Helsinki is one of Europe’s fastest-growing cities. Occupying top positions in international smart city surveys, Helsinki hosts some 70 platforms for testing and developing sustainable solutions and smart & clean business activities. With about 5 million inhabitants, the metropolitan area of Monterrey has a long industrial tradition and is today among Mexico’s most important industrial and financial centres, and one of the country’s and the world’s wealthiest cities. Strategically located 60 miles from the US-Mexican border, Monterrey is home to massive industries, including manufacturing, steel and beverages.

This Nordic talk will provide insights on the opportunities the two cities see in further advancing sustainable industry, what are their plans and what has already been done? One principal element of discussion is how supporting digitalization and development of the so-called Industry 4.0 can bring about environmental, climate and social benefits, especially for urban environments.
