Circular Economy - Nordic and Luxembourg SGDs Approaches and Ambitions

Our planet is under pressure - could circular consumption be the solution? At present only 8.6% of the global economy is circular, according to the Circularity Gap Report 2020. Our current economic model is built on a linear approach of take-make-waste. This puts repressure on strained resources, drives climate change and ecosystem degradation and contributes to societal imbalances. Given the systemic impact of Covid19 and its parallels with the climate crisis, the need to move to a more sustainable and resilient model has become evident. To fulfil both the Paris Climate Agreement and the SDGs, the transition towards a circular economic model could be key. Studies show material savings, waste and emissions reductions and job creation among its benefits. Luxembourg and Nordic countries have been at the leading edge to make this paradigm shift happen.

The European Commission has adopted a new Circular Economy Action Plan as one of the main blocks of the European Green Deal. The panel discussion will explore why the circular approach is both a necessity and opportunity for businesses in Luxembourg and the Nordic countries and how it is implemented and what is needed to scale up.
