How do colonial frameworks support the idea of Nordic Utopia? Should other countries look to the Nordics as beacons of an equitable society?

The Myth of the Nordic Utopia, and its promises of an equal society, progressive politics, and social safety net for all at home and abroad, leaves its own marginalized communities out of the conversation. This myth assumes a one-size-fits-all framework, ignoring the structural violence faced by Afro Nordic people, other racial minorities, and indigenous people. The prevailing story of a society where everyone is included perpetuates the discrimination, financial inequalities, and cultural loss that these communities endure. In this Nordic talk, we will explore how this mythology of utopia harms communities of color in the Nordic Societies.
